The first four days of 3rd grade have been jam-packed with so many fun activities and learning opportunities. I’m hoping that your child has come home eager to share the excitement from the day!
The first day of school started with our Rockland tradition of ringing in the new year with our opening bell ceremony. Mr. Knapp’s words of setting the bar high for ourselves will permeate our entire year. As the children walked into our classroom, the energy was electric! While seeing old faces and meeting new ones, the children shared summer experiences as well as hopes for their 3rd grade year. On Wednesday we had a chance to get together as an entire 3rd grade and do a people search. We learned about our peers and enjoyed popsicles on the playground.
We are continuing to go over the expectations around Rockland School and our classroom. It’s important to teach the children what we are looking for so they are aware of the guidelines for success. It has generated lots of great conversation.
Math assessments and spelling inventories have been started since we will dive into math and reading next week. We have also begun our map skills. Ask your child to tell you a bit about their atlas!
Growth Mindset has been a large topic of conversation. The idea that you can continue to grow and stretch your brain to learn is important for success. We use the term neurosculptor since we have the power to shape our brains through hard work, determination and grit. You’ll hear more about this throughout the year, but know that we will push your child to achieve his/her full potential this year. Ask your child to tell you a bit more about growth mindset and what it means to them.
Monday is Curriculum Night. I look forward to seeing you there to learn about the upcoming year, our classroom and 3rd grade curriculum.
Tonight is the Back to School BBQ at Rockland from 5:30-7:30. I hope to see you and your family there.
I encourage you to go on the Rockland Website and sign up to receive the school emails so you can stay up-to-date on all of the happenings in the school and district. http://www.d70schools.org/schoolsites/?sect=parents&func=register&school_id=5 You need to do this each year in order to continue to receive the emails.
If you have a moment, take some time to check out our class site. http://mrssundhsclass.weebly.com/ I also encourage you to check out our weekly pictures here: http://mrssundhsclass.weebly.com/pictures.html
Something I work hard to do is see your child participate in one of their outside of school activities. If they would like me to attend a sporting game or something else, please feel free to send the schedule my way so I can make it out. It’s always fun to see them in another setting displaying a different skill.
I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your children and can’t wait to team together for a successful year together.
Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to 17 smiling faces on Monday.
Warmly,
Danya Sundh
